CG Residential Fire

Cape Girardeau firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire at 144 Camilla Drive on Sunday. After 25 minutes the blaze was brougt under control. Residents were alerted to the flames by the family dog. No one was hurt. Damage is estimated to be 75-thousand dollars.

MO Commuted Sentences

Patty Prewitt the longest-serving femails prisoner in MO is among the nine people who have had their sentences commuted by Missouri Governor Mike Parson.He also pardoned 16 others.Prewitt, a now 75-year-old grandmother, was serving a life sentence for the 1984 murder of her husband in their farmhouse in Holden, Missouri.

Armed Robbery Suspect Caught

Following an armed robbery in October in Cape Girardeau the Sheriff’s Department took the third and final suspect involved in this incident into custody. He’s identified as Chrishon Sawyer (19) of Villa Ridge, IL. Sawyer is currently being held in the Cape Girardeau jail on a $100,000 cash only bond.

Bridge Closed

MoDOT has closed the Route AA bridge over Route 60 in Sikeston, Missouri to all traffic since an oversized vehicle damaged the structure. The damage inspection report indicates a long-term closure will be required. Once final inspection and a repair plan have been completed, updated timelines will be shared with the public.

MO Sports Betting

Sports betting is now legal, but Missourians have to wait a couple more months to legally place sports bets. Amendment Two passed narrowly in November. With no challengers, sports betting became legal in Missouri earlier this month, but actual betting is slated for Summer 2025.

Poplar Bluff City Manager

The Poplar Bluff city council appointed a new city manager. According to a news release from the city of Poplar Bluff, Robert Knodell’s new position is effective on January 27, 2025. Knodell previously served as deputy chief of staff to Governor Mike Parson and as the director of the Missouri Department of Social Services.
