CG Riverfront Clean-Up

Volunteers worked to make the riverfront neat and clean in Cape Girardeau. On Saturday afternoon volunteers took part in a litter pickup at the riverfront along the Mississippi. This was all done to help make the area a cleaner and safer place for animals that live along the river.

Heartland Earthquake

A magnitude 3.7 earthquake has been felt across the Heartland including in Bootheel. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), an M3.7 earthquake registered approximately 1.25 miles east of Steele, Missouri Saturday night.The depth of the quake was 7.2 miles. No one was hurt but over 150 people report feeling the quake.

EPA Lithium Battery Fire Report

The Environmental Protection Agency is working with Missouri’s Department of Natural Resources to monitor the air quality in Fredericktown after a major fire at a lithium battery plant broke out Wednesday. An EPA spokesperson says the public will be notified if levels exceed normal limits.

Authorities have arrested a New Madrid County man, David Smith, after investigating the downloading of child pornography. According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, on Friday, October 4, investigators assigned to the SEMO Cyber Crimes Task Force were contacted by The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about child pornography.
