Mount Vernon Man Arrested

An investigation in southern Illinois has led to the arrest of a Mount Vernon man. 22-year-old Michael W. McClanahan’s been arrested for criminal sexual assault and possession of child pornography.This stems from a complaint made to the sheriff’s office on December 5, alleging McClanahan was threatening a woman.The investigation continues.

Governor Appoints Sikeston Man

A gubernatorial appointment: Steve Hodge, of Sikeston, was appointed to the Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council. Hodge has been employed by Southeast Missouri Residential Services (SEMORS) since 2000. His interest in the Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council stems from his desire to help others with developmental disabilities. Hodge graduated from Doniphan High School.

CG Residential Fires

In Cape Girardeau two people had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a fire heavily damaged two homes on the 1100 block of Merriwether late Saturday evening. Fire Chief Morris says the fire appears to have started due to a wood-burning stove in an attached garage in one of the homes.

Kindergarten Child Dies

Scott City Police Chief Chris Griggs says his department is investigating the death of a kindergarten child. The incident was posted on the Scott City R-1 school district’s social media page on Thursday. There will be more information released later.

Bridge Maintenance

Northbound Interstate 57 in Scott and Mississippi counties – between Mile Marker 1 and Mile Marker 4 – is reduced as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance. According to a MoDOT news release, the work is underway daily through Tuesday, Dec. 23.
