Highway Patrol Promotion

Colonel Michael A. Turner, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, has announced the promotion ofLieutenant Jon C. Pruiett will be promoted to the rank of captain and will serve as the commander of Troop I that iincludes Cape Girardeau.

In employment news Missouri nonfarm payroll employment increased by 12,500 jobs in February and the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 3.7 percent. Private industry employment increased by 12,200 jobs and government employment increased by 300 jobs. A Memphis, Tennessee, man is accused of selling a marijuana product to a minor at a local business. The New Madrid Police Department said a search warrant was served at New Mad Smoke, a business in New Madrid.

The Cape Girardeau County Commission has a new place to call home. Its Monday meeting was the first held at the renovated 1908 Courthouse at 100 Court St. in Jackson. Presiding Commissioner Clint Tracy and Associate Commissioners Charlie Herbst and Stephen Daume spent most of the meeting discussing the building’s history.
