On New Year’s Eve in Cape Girardeau an officer was parked near the 500-Block of S. Sprigg when he heard several gunshots coming from the 500-Block of S. Frederick. The officer began driving to investigate while also receiving an alert from ShotSpotter advising shots had been fired in the 500-Block of S. Frederick. Officers arrived on scene and made contact with those in a vehicle. While talking to them, another man later identified as Dejuan McClung (39) of Cape Girardeau approached the officers. The officers informed McClung to stay back while they were investigating. McClung ultimately was arrested for unlawful shooting of a firearm and for posessing cocaine.
