The Cape Girardeau Police Department is actively investigating the illegal harvest of a buck within city limits. This deer was taken outside the managed hunt area, and the authorized private property hunting permitted in the city. Investigators believe the deer was shot sometime between November 8th and November 11th near Kiwanis Park. According to police the person responsible has shown a clear disregard for wildlife and responsible hunting practices. Hunting outside designated seasons or methods is a violation of law and abandoning or improperly disposing of a deer carcass is prohibited when placing animal remains on public roads or property not owned by the hunter.
