The Cape Girardeau Fire Department dealt with a structure fire on Big Bend Road Monday and although the home was vacant a press release says the “bulk of the fire” came from the basement and spread up the house and a firefighter partially fell through a collapsed floor and was able to remove himself. Plus the report says the interior stairs to the second floor “burned away”, requiring firefighters to access the second floor through a ladder to the roof to extinguish the fires.It’s being labeled a suspicious blaze and is under investigation.
