18 year old, Juan I. Mercado, is charged with assault first degree, armed criminal action and receiving stolen property. He was arrested following a shots-fired call in the 2800 block of Themis. The victim, who appeared to been grazed by a bullet, told officers that he was involved in a physical fight with the suspect and he grabbed a knife and stabbed the suspect because the suspect had a gun. Mercado admitted to shooting the gun, and claims it was in self defense.
