Missouri is appealing a ruling by a federal judge that struck down part of the state’s sex offender law regarding Halloween. Last week, U.S. District Judge John Ross ruled it was unconstitutional to require registered sex offenders to post signs outside their homes on Halloween night reading “no candy or treats at this residence.” Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced on X, formerly Twitter, that he wants Missouri “to be the safest state in the nation for children,” and “that includes on Halloween.” The rest of the state law remains in force, which forbids sex offenders from all Halloween-related contact with children.
