Rhett Pierce, Cape Girardeau City Council member for Ward 5, has submitted his resignation from the City Council. Pierce was arrested Friday on charges related to a gun and drug trafficking. Discussion on the matter is tight-lipped during the investigation. In the meantime City Council will appoint a replacement for Pierce at the next City Council meeting on October 7th from applications that need to be filed by October 4th and then a special election will be held for a permanent replacement.
