While Federal Emergency officials are preparing to leave Sikeston, work will continue to help tornado victims. In a FEMA update Sikeston was declared a disaster area on July 23 after an EF3 tornado tore through the region on May 26.Officials say they visited 1,489 homes in the path of the tornado, spoke to 515 survivors and completed 38 registrations for disaster assistance. FEMA also visited six community-based organizations and 44 faith-based organizations. They also visited two government agencies and 14 private sector locations and handed out information reaching over 25-thousand people.
